Our teachers know their students and work with them to help them realise their potential as learners. Our focus on authentic learning and authentic assessment ensures that we challenge our students to grow in their learning and achieve their personal best.

Throughout our community of Sydney Catholic schools, we have shown high performance of our students in measures such as NAPLAN and the HSC.

At St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, Como-Oyster Bay, our students are able to take responsibility for their own learning. Teachers support and scaffold learning for the students to help them achieve their individual learning goals. Learning goals are determined through the use of a comprehensive assessment schedule that identifies each student’s strengths, areas of development and their academic growth over time.

Students apply and demonstrate their learning in various key learning areas through the Achievement Integrated Model (AIM). AIM is a student driven inquiry-based model focusing on developing metacognitive skills and self-efficacy.  AIM is an opportunity for all learners to challenge themselves and celebrate their learning achievements.

St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School places special emphasis on student learning in Creative Arts. These learning experiences contribute to the development of the whole child.  Our specialist Music, Drama, Dance and Visual Arts teachers offer students opportunities for personal expression, enjoyment, imagination and the creation of shared meanings. Further complimenting the Creative Arts program, students in Years 3 to 6 are offered the opportunity to be part of the school band. This allows students the opportunity to not only further their musical ability but also understand and appreciate the importance of working and playing together in order to deliver a performance for an audience.

STEM and coding is explicitly taught in each grade. Our school has invested in various technologies that expose our students to a variety of coding and robotics.  These skills ensure that our students are well equipped for the future.St Joseph's Catholic Primary School Como-Oyster Bay - Learning - Learning and achievement
